What is
Gestalt
Language
Processing?

Gestalt Language Processing refers to a form of language development that starts with whole memorized phrases/scripts/gestalts to single words. This can be described as delayed echolalia. Delayed echolalia is when a child produces a phrase that they have heard before (maybe from a TV show, their favorite song, or they heard you say it!)

Your child understands the entire gestalt as a “chunk” and may have difficulty understanding each single word as a unit.

Example of a stage one gestalt: Your child is producing “What’s the plan?”

This is a script that their favorite character says. Your child may not fully grasp the meaning of each word but has memorized the expression.

Gestalt Language Processing has six stages, our clinic is equipped to assist your child in progressing from the initial stage (scripting entire gestalts) to the subsequent stages (generating novel phrases independently).
