Receptive Language Disorder

A receptive language disorder is when a child is having trouble understanding words that they hear or read.

This may look like: 

- Difficulty identifying objects

- Difficulty following directions

- Difficulty understanding longer complex sentences

- Difficulty recalling information from text

- Trouble answering Wh- questions

Expressive Language Disorder

An expressive language disorder is when a child is having trouble sharing and expressing thoughts and ideas.

This may look like: 

- Difficulty producing words

- Difficulty producing an appropriate utterance length

- Trouble asking questions

- Trouble labeling objects
