What is a
Phonological Disorder?

A phonological disorder is a speech sound disorder characterized by consistent patterns of speech sound errors.

Gliding is a phonological process commonly observed in phonological disorders. Gliding is when liquid sounds (/l/ and /r/) are replaced by glide sounds (/w/ and /j/). For example:

"rabbit" produced as "wabbit"

“lion” produced as “wion”

What is an articulation disorder?

An articulation disorder is a speech sound disorder characterized by difficulty producing sounds or pronouncing certain sounds correctly. This can result in speech that is unclear, difficult to understand, or distorted.

An example of an articulation disorder can be a frontal and lateral lisp, causing distortions when producing /s/ and /z/.
